Kishangarh Ajmer Airport

Kishangarh Airport is set to become the 2nd busiest airport in Rajasthan within a year of its operations, since after Jaipur Airport. It is a regional airport located in Kishangarh on National Highway 8 which is approximately 27 km away on the north-east of Ajmer in Rajasthan, India. The airport was inaugurated on 11th October 2017 which is operated by the Airport Authority of India (AAI. It covers an area of 742 acres and has a 2000-meter-long runway. The airport is expected to facilitate travelers with the ease of conveyance that makes it comfortable to connect the famous pilgrimage sites of Rajasthan – Ajmer & Pushkar. Devotees or pilgrims prefer to reach Ajmer or Pushkar by boarding a flight connecting to Kishangarh Airport which is expected to be one of the largest airports in Rajasthan.

Initiation –Soon after the foundation stone of Jaipur Metro’s underground section construction in 2013, the then prime minister of national, Manmohan Singh had divulged the government’s plan of establishing 100 new airports in smaller towns for easy air connectivity. This was intended to draw more and more people for becoming frequent flyers. Under this plan, the Kishangarh Airport in Rajasthan was the first project among 100 new ones.

Name of the airport – Initially, there were differences over the name of the proposed 100 airports. While being an important mode of connectivity for Ajmer and Pushkar, it was supposed to be named after the Sufi Saint, Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, or the iconic Rajput King Prithviraj Chauhan. Though, it was finally decided that the airport would be named after the found of Jodhpur city – Prince Kishan Singh and thus it is known as Kishangarh Airport.

Geography / Location – During the year 2013, when the prime minister laid the foundation stone of this airport, a land sprawled over 441 acres was defined for developing the airport to AAI. The location is surrounded by the Aravalli hills of Rajasthan in a peaceful zone. The 2700 sq m passenger terminal building can handle 150 in and outbound passengers per hour. Other features of the terminal comprise 6 check-in counters, one x-ray screening machine for baggage screening, and an elevated baggage conveyor belt at the arrival terminals. The airport has a huge parking space for 125 cars at least. The terminal features three-dimensional murals made of marble, i.e., Bani Thani Portraits, the paintings of Kishangarh School of Paintings, and fountains to give the project the traditional touch.
